Anurag Kashyap: We have fought it out in the High Court and if need be, we shall fight it out in the Supreme Court as well

The makers of Udta Punjab are jubilant after receiving the Bombay High Court’s verdict in their favour.

Yesterday, while delivering the landmark judjment, the court slammed the Central Board Of Film Certification’s (CBFC) demand for 89 cuts in the film and reduced it to a single one (Udta Punjab wins the battle against the Censor Board, June 13
).

A short while ago, Team Udta Punjab held a press meet to share their joy over the victory. While many in Bollywood have been openly seeking CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani’s removal, Anurag Kashyap maintained restraint.

When asked if the Censor Board chief was being too strict, the Udta Punjab producer said, “I have loved watching his films like Shola Aur Shabnam and Aankhen. It's not that his sensibilities as a filmmaker are wrong. It's just that while everyone else has grown up, he is still stuck in the past.”

Calling for a change, Anurag added, “The CBFC’s guidelines and the way they are interpreted need to change. One needs to remember that the guidelines were the same when films like Dev D and Gangs Of Wasseypur were passed.”

So, will we get to see Udta Punjab
this Friday? “We are going ahead with the release on June 17,” he confirmed.

But what if the CBFC moves the Supreme Court as rumours suggest? “Well, we can't help it. We have fought it out in the High Court and if need be, we shall fight it out there as well. Let’s hope for the best.” he concluded.
